What a chilly day for a Stonybrook Sanctuary Norfolk family session! It wasn’t wear-a-sweater chilly, it was wipe-those-noses-every-five-seconds chilly! But this family of four lit it up with smile and tickles and were such good sports! The youngest member of the family was slightly less comfortable, but in the end we collected a great variety of images!
We started out by the water. Stonybrook has the most wonderful boardwalks where you can see foliage and wildlife over the marsh. I thought this would get the little guy smiling! Check out that beautiful fall light in the second image. The color temp is different in the sun (and at different times of day!) and in the fall it comes at such a low angle that it’s almost always flattering. Did you know that? I schedule all sessions around the sun! OK, back to the H family…
When little ones are being less that enthusiastic, I always ask parents to take a few moments and just play with the kids. Talk to them about where we are, something interesting they see. It lends itself to wonderful photo ops and gets the kiddos prepped for maybe…maybe..looking at the camera a little later on. This sweet image below is of a moment like this. Dad and the older son stood for a couple images showing off that foliage!
Looking at turtles and a few tickles will sometimes work, too!
The boardwalk was our next stop. It’s fun to walk down and is like a tunnel! Kids usually love walking on it to hear the hollow noise below, and the soft backlight makes for gorgeous skin tones against the (for now) green foliage.
Finally, a photo of the two handsome brothers together! Sometimes it takes more effort than others, but good results are always worth it 🙂 This image below is nice in color but I absolutely love it in black and white.
