Such a treat to get to meet baby Kiley at just five days new for her home newborn session! I have known her parents since photographing their wedding in 2013 (check out their wedding!). Then I was invited to photograph her aunts wedding, and friends…. it’s been pretty wonderful to get to know this group of people!
A nice warm house and sound machine were waiting when I arrived. Kiley’s parents did a great job preparing for the session! It took a little coaxing to get this little one to sleep, but once she did we were off! Their home had wonderful window light in the main room. I set up next to that and it was perfect!
At home newborn session are a combination of studio-like setup images of the baby and capturing the family in their own environment. I love the image of mom in the baby’s nursery. Home newborn sessions are also great because it’s so convenient for the parents. Everything they need for baby is right there. And I bring the rest!
A few studio favorites from our session in their home:
This next series is really wonderful because of what happened when we were shooting. Little Kiley had been sleepy throughout the session and started to stir as she was in her parents arms. I was aiming for the image above when Kiley’s mom noticed that she began to smile – the first time they had ever seen her smile! As exhausted as new parents are (tiny humans tend to bring that with them when they come into the world!) these two absolutely lit up. The third image below is of them looking at a family member that was in the room. That’s the stuff that makes it all worthwhile!
One of the perks of this job is you get to know couples very well and watch families grow. We are off to a great start with the sweet home newborn session!
